Graffiti artist Raul “SPEW” Vasquez, one of Slanguage’s first, young artists that worked at the studio, returns for his first solo exhibition, RESIDUE. The show is comprised of thirteen ink-pen drawings made between 2007-2008 while the artist was incarcerated. They are intricately detailed and weave a wide array of designs and shapes taken from calligraphy and gang-affiliated writing. They show the artist coping with solitude and isolation.

SLANGAIR (Artist in Residency)
This is the first exhibition part of Slanguage’s residency program, SLANGAIR (Artist in Residency), which annually invites two artists from California, including one from Los Angeles, a national artist, and an international artist to the studio. During their time at Slanguage, each artist builds a body of work to show at the studio’s gallery space.
